Friday 27th January will be Burns night with Phil Henderson playing the bagpipes and Scot Roberts addressing the hagis. Hagis, Neeps and Tatties will be available with a wee dram all for £6.50.

There are 6 real ales always on offer including 3 guest beers.

And we can assure you that you won't be troubled by the presence of a jukebox, a television or loud music (with the possible exception of Wednesday nights!).

Well-behaved dogs and children are always welcome!

Sunday Lunch

Good wholesome food is served every Sunday afternoon usually from 12.30pm - 6:30pm (or until we run out).

Every Sunday - Roast Beef, Yorkshire Puddings, Roast Potatoes, Creamy Mash, Buttered Carrots and Greens.

Home made Soup starter and Dessert Available.

Veggie option and Kids portion available on all meals.

1 course @ £5.95, 2 course @ £7.95, 3 course @ £9.95

Real Ales

Six real ales are on offer: we always serve Timothy Taylor Landlord, Black Sheep Best Bitter and Tetley Traditional along with 3 guest beers which are, as of 26 /01/12 - Bow Haughler ABV 4.1% from Geeves, Vixen ABV 4.7% from Cottage Brewery and Belgian Blue ABV 4.9% from Bradfield.

Waiting to come on :- Traditional Bitter ABV 4.0% from Crown Brewery, Winter Coat ABV 4.2% from Salamander Plus more Belgian Blue to be on until the end of January (only 6 barrels left).

Many come from micro breweries within a 25 mile radius, which gives us the Barnsley CAMRA Locale certificate, although we do also feature other beers from around the country.

Entertainment

Quiz Night

Tuesday 9.30pm (ish) start. Fun Quiz nights. Comprising of 4 games that give a bottle of beer and a bottle of wine. The fourth game also has a blue line down for a bottle of wine and the evenings cash prize on the successful answering of a blue line question. Most choose to "donate" this to the jar on the bar charity collection.

Burns Night celebrations - Friday 27th January

Pipes played by Phil Henderson and the address of the hagis by Scot Roberts.

Hagis, Neeps and Tatties with a wee dram available at £6.50.

Music Night

Wednesday night is Jamming session Night. Budding and established musicians are all welcome, feel free to come and take part.

We also hold special music evenings - keep an eye out for information in the pub or check back here for information of forth coming events.

Folk night - every 4th Thursday - next 26th January

Crazy Crow, a band from Sheffield who play all sorts of music but biased towards Irish - www.wix.com/mlydiat/crazy_crow - get together with other musicians for a tremendous evening of folk music.

Bluegrass night - next 16th February

Due to other commitments the band will be at the pub on the 3rd Thursday (16th) in February.

Bluegrass music with The Sheaf River Band and friends 8:30 til 11:00 playing a range of classics in the Flat and Scroggs / Bill Monroe style.

Forthcoming Events

Annual Events

We hold several annual events including a popular Harvest Festival auction and a conker competition. Details will appear nearer the date.

Traditional Pub Games

We have a range of games for people to play - free of charge! These include darts, dominoes, cards, ringing the bull, bagatelle, shove ha'penny, bar skittles, giant dominoes, giant jenga and a Chess Board.

New addition of a pool table @ £0.50 per game .

The Jar on the Bar

The November / December charity collection will go to MacMillan Cancer Care. £200 was collected by their representative. Well done everyone.

January / February collection will be for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in memory of Maria Micklethwaite who was tragically taken from Ian, her husband of 3 months, when hit by a car whilst out cycling.

A family pub with a welcoming atmosphere

Sunday afternoons in particular have a nice, friendly family atmosphere. You can also come and have a meal and play our traditional pub games afterwards or enjoy the sheltered suntrap of our South facing beer garden accessed through the bar.
